Art @the start
The aim of this project it to help you get stuck in and started on your journey to being amazing. All art is based on mark making and to help get you all warmed up you have a series of tasks including: Shadow drawing, the art of the doodle, veg and fruit printing. Task 1 – You will start by looking at shadows that you see all around you, and if the great British weather is dull use an electric light to cast shadows of everyday objects. Start with a pencil and trace your shadows you will be surprised at the shapes you get. Look at the playful work of Vincent Bal if you really fancy a challenge Task 2 – Get doodling, yes doodle away its good for you, from humble lines to pages filled with scribbles look at the work of Hattie Stewart who has doodled for Apple and Computer Arts. Bit to tidy for you? Well, have a look at a bundle of beautiful chaos by Matt Lyon Task 3 - Have a go at the fruit and veg printing, for kids? Well think again there are many examples of potato printing in the fashion world. Task 4 – Of course there is nothing stopping you giving us a surprise choose a subject draw it, paint it, stitch it you can even App it, whichever way you choose to create it bring it, show it #artatthestart but most of all be proud of it. |

If you like art and design and would like to get stuck in straight away, this introductory, UAL Level 1 Diploma is the ideal place to begin. It’s designed to develop a foundation of practical skills and knowledge in art and design, helping you to progress onto higher levels of study whilst having fun and gaining confidence.
You will get to work on a range of creative activities such as drawing, printing, using mixed media and communication design.
As part of the course, you’ll also develop a host of essential study skills that will help you through any subject or future employment, including how to research effectively, how to think creatively, how to manage your time, and be willing to participate in classes in Maths & English
You’ll need to attend an informal interview to enrol on this course, and you should be enthusiastic about the subject, and it would be helpful to have a small portfolio of art work for your interview.
